Mayor Holstege: I am writing in support of the propose resolution seeking an investigation of Sheriff Bianco's actions which are contrary to his duties and responsibilities as the top law enforcement authority in Riverside County. His failure to lead and enforce public health mandates and separation are reflected in the infection rates for detainees in the detention facilities under his jurisdiction as well as his pronouncements that he believes Covid immunity is best accomplished by a healthy life style as opposed to vaccine. He's welcome to his opinions but not when they become a policy that undercuts the primary goal of all law enforcement agencies, to protect and serve the welfare of the community. For a few past chapters in my professional life I was a Deputy City Attorney charged with presenting cases with respect to terminating police officers in all ranks up to the Chief of Police so I understand that holding a law enforcement position is not a pass to join anti government groups or pronounce standards that are anathema to good governance and the rule of law. My thoughts are also leavened by the fact that my father was an assistant police chief and my brother is retired law enforcement in Santa Barbara, so I stand second to no one in my support for law enforcement in responding appropriately to the difficulties and dangers faced in preserving our welfare and protecting us. I think both would be embarrassed by the way the Sheriff presents and conducts himself. I am a resident of Rancho Mirage and our contracted for Police Department is the Riverside Sheriff. Consequently we may be even more directly impacted by the way the Sheriff conducts himself in his official capacity. If you think it appropriate please feel free to share this with your colleagues on the Council. Thank you for wading through this too long email. Anthony Mejia, please relay this email message to the PS City Council prior to Thursday meeting: Members of the PS City Council -- Please do not call for a partisan investigation of Sheriff Bianco. You are supposed to represent all the residents of Palm Springs-- not just the ultra liberal progressives. The Sheriffs opinions regarding mask and vax mandates ARE supported by the "science" (actual scientific studies)'. Your overly restrictive mandates are NOT. They are not even supported by the other CV Cities. Thank you. He is among those Sheriffs who believe that they are above the law and has repeatedly demonstrated that he is an extremist with dangerous views . He has added many guns to our streets since elected. His conspiratorial, anti-vaxxer, anti -masker rants are on mainstream and social media. His idea of public safety, shown by his his use of excessive force, his racist policies and his inability to do his actual job has put all of Riverside County at risk. He must be held accountable, and we must vote him out. Thank you for your courage and commitment to stand up for the city of Palm Springs, and thank you for your role in protecting our democracy. NOTICE: This message originated outside of The City of Palm Springs -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe. Spell corrected, amended.. Oct 28, 2021 We request City Council NOT send any letter concerning Chad Bianco, county sheriff. Mr. Bianco needs to stay in position as County of Riverside sheriff department head, lead. We object to any such letter, object to any such inquiry. This is clearly another "witchhunt" waste of time, waste of funds, bad publicity stunt by Mayor, City Council. You chased after former police chief Bryan Reyes..ran him off when he is a great man. This is another kut if line chase, as are the false confabulations that this City is racist, defund police ploys June 2020 & ongoing. Please stop the cancel culture Socialist, Marxist plots now. We do not appreciate your overzealous stunts to give the city bad reputation, bad labels ... time to cease and focus on solving local rampant crime issues. Please do a much better job, focus better and stop going off the rails with this negativity. We need, deserve a city council of the people -not the irrational whims of socialist agenda to defund police, upset/defund sheriff department or all of this kind of ruckus. I give permission for city clerk to read at 10/28/21 council meeting but request my personal info. & details be redacted from record. Thank you. Dear Council; It is my understanding Mayor Holstege's has already drafted a letter starts out similar to "WE, the people of Palm Springs...". If true, I do not approve of writing letters on my behalf -without knowing my position on the subject. If you want to write a letter on your behalf that you sign or that of City Council that is fine. It is outrageous to include anything beyond that. Mark Coleman P.O. Box 4975 Palm Springs, CA 92263 4 11) Jz8)702( lVGdmritk rmm xo.1r
