Mejia, City Clerk RECOMMENDATION: Adopt a Resolution entitled "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING PLACE, DAYS, AND TIME AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 24790." BACKGROUND: The Palm Springs City Charter Section 307 authorizes the City Council to adopt a resolution or ordinance to establish the dates and times for its regular meetings. On December 4, 2019, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2006 to allow the regular meeting schedule to be adopted by Resolution. On August 6, 2020, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 24790, setting the regular meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. To address possible conflicts, staff has developed a draft meeting schedule for 2021, as outlined in Attachment 1. Alternatively, the City Council may provide direction on additional modifications to the meeting schedule. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING PLACE, DAYS, AND TIME AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 24790 WHEREAS, Section 307 of the Palm Springs City Charter requires that regular meetings of the City Council be established by ordinance or resolution; and WHEREAS, on December 4, 2019, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2006 to allow its regular meeting schedule to be set by resolution; and WHEREAS, on August 6, 2020, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 24790 setting its regular meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m., unless otherwise reschedule or canceled. WHEREAS, the City Council desires to confirm its meeting schedule for 2021 as the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m., unless otherwise rescheduled or canceled. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Regular meetings of the City Council shall be held in the City, at City Hall, 3200 East Tahquitz Canyon Way, on the-second and fourth Thursday of each month at the hour of 5:30 p.m. When the regular meeting falls on a legal holiday, the meeting shall be held on the following day unless otherwise determined by the City Council at a regular meeting of the City Council. SECTION 2. Regular meetings of the City Council acting as the governing boards of the successor agency, housing authority, and/or financing authority, shall be held in the City, at City Hall, 3200 East Tahquitz Canyon Way, on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the hour of 5:30 p.m. When the meeting falls on a legal holiday, the meeting shall be held on the following day unless otherwise determined by the City Council acting as the governing boards SECTION 3. Closed sessions of the City Council and/or the governing boards as provided in this Resolution may be conducted prior to the 5:30 p.m. business portion of regular meetings and as noticed from time to time on the agenda for such meetings. The time scheduled will depend upon the number of items to be considered and the complexity of the issues to be discussed. If necessary, closed sessions not completed prior to the business portion of the meeting may be considered at the conclusion of the business portion of the meeting or as otherwise determined by the City Council. SECTION 4. The City Council has canceled and/or rescheduled certain meetings as outlined in Exhibit A. 3Resolution No. Page2 SECTION 5. Resolution No. 24790 is hereby rescinded and replaced. SECTION 6. The City Clerk of the City of Palm Springs shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution and its approval by the City Council and shall cause the same to be listed in the records of the City.
