HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-03-15 Declaration of Emergency OrderDECLARATION OF AN EMERGENCY ORDER CITY OF PALM SPRINGS March 15, 2020 WHEREAS, pursuant to Palm Springs Municipal Code section 2.20.050(a)(1), the City Manager, acting as the Director of Emergency Services, has, on March 14, 2020, declared the existence of a local emergency within the City of Palm Springs, due to the threat presented by the COVID-19 pandemic; and WHEREAS, on March 15, 2020, Governor Newsom has advised that those who are 65 and older or vulnerable to COVID-19 should practice home isolation; and WHEREAS, on March 15, 2020, Governor Newsom has asked that bars night clubs, and breweries should close. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DECLARED, that those who are 65 and older or vulnerable to COVID-19 are encouraged to practice home isolation, and should venture out only as absolutely necessary; and IT IS FURTHER DECLARED AND ORDERED, that all bars, night clubs and breweries within the City of Palm Springs are hereby ordered closed immediately. Those restaurants that include a bar area may remain open, but must close the bar area of the restaurant. In addition, social distancing (defined as distancing of tables to no less than six (6) feet from each other) must be maintained in any restaurant that remains open; and IT IS FURTHER DECLARED AND ORDERED, that City peace officers and City employees are hereby empowered to enforce this order, including, without limitation, by closing any enterprise covered by this order. Page 1 of 2 IT IS FURTHER DECLARED AND ORDERED, that this order is a temporary emergency measure, which is effective immediately and shall remain in effect unless and until modified or superseded by the City Council or any county, state or federal order or declaration.
