HomeMy WebLinkAboutHomeless Services Summer 2021Palm Springs Access Center, NOW OPEN! 225 El Cielo Road (Boxing Club) Open 7 Days a week 8 am –5 pm Drop-in Center and wrap around services provided by Martha’s Village and Kitchen with the goal of helping individuals obtain permanent housing, supportive housing, shelter, or program placement. Since the Access Center opened on Aug. 31, 2021: •98 unduplicated clients have been served •73 case management meetings have taken place •46 individuals have used the shower facilities Secondary Impact Measures •Dedicated on-site security services (3 security guards required per contract –currently providing 4) •Loitering not allowed at the center or on adjacent parcels. •Security monitors and reports incidents of loitering •24-hour contact number visible and available for the public to report any disturbances or issues related to the facility •Video surveillance cameras with remote monitoring have been installed •The Center will not be used to provide temporary or permanent residence •Center provides much needed showers and bathrooms •Assistance with health, disability, social security, and other benefits •Vouchers for laundry services and bus passes •Computer lab and phones •Periodic on-site medical services or referrals •Case management •Access to behavioral health services •Access to other support services like cash and non-cash benefits. •Employment searches, application assistance, and interview techniques •Family reunification program •Transportation assistance •Assistance with food stamps, birth certificates, and identification cards •Vouchers for clean clothes 24-Hour Shelter at the Palm Springs Methodist Church 1555 E. Alejo Rd •Open July 6, 2021, through September 30, 2021 •Overnight cooling center for up to 30 people at the First United Methodist Church •Provides a place to sleep overnight, shower, and keep out of the dangerous summer heat •Partnership of Riverside County, First United Methodist Church, and the Desert Healthcare District •Operated by Martha’s Village and Kitchen which provides access to case management, social services and resources •Ultimate goal of finding housing for individuals: •Last year 89% moved into permanent housing •98% of clients feel they are on a path to self-sufficiency •This includes 75 men, 149 women, and 208 children for a total of 432 homeless clients. •Served 160 unduplicated clients in 2 months.
