Hi my name is Robert Saunders and my wife and I live on the 18th fairway, 3044 E Verona rd. We bought our home because it was on the golf course and were very sad when it closed. But we as many many other home owners on these fairways want this project to get underway, what ever the city has to do to get it started. We're tired of the dust coming off the fairways, trucks and cars during the day and cars at 1 and 2 am not to mention the homeless. Because of this privately owned property we have to clean our pools and decks almost daily. Thank You, Robert Saunders 1 qJq l21J~t PlM?,i& (Dr¥\~ ITEM No. No,v-~ e,ttlo-.. Dear Mayor Holstege and Mr Mejia, Just a note to register my support for lifting the indoor mask mandate for businesses at the next opportunity. I returned to Palm Springs last week after spending the summer in New York. I support New York's approach of face masks mandated for the unvaccinated. This has been their protocol since vaccines became fully available in June 2021. In a crowded city of 8 million, COVID-19 hospitalizations have been well contained at a low and manageable level, as the majority have been vaccinated. It seems illogical that a vaccinated person needs to be masked in a largely empty Ralph's, or that I cannot sit down for a coffee at a McDonald's. More importantly, it also sends the wrong message to the unvaccinated: that the majority will curtail their businesses and activities in order for this minority to carry on indulging their fears and misinformation, at the expense of our economy. I was certainly happy to wear a face mask as a matter of common sense before I was vaccinated. I think it's time for Palm Springs to get back to normal, and in so doing pressure the unvaccinated to comply with their societal obligations, even if only through FOMO. I have a secondary problem with current protocols: what is emerging as a two tier society. The paying restaurant diner can attest to his vaccine status and sit freely in an enclosed space. The staff of that restaurant do not have that ability, and are forced to mask up for an 8 or even 12 hour shift, in often hot conditions. I believe it is high time to treat our service workers with the same consideration shown to paying restaurant patrons. I would appreciate hearing how you and the Council plan to move Palm Springs toward normality in simple daily business, given the relatively high take up of vaccines and low per capita incidence of COVID in California. My suggestion is for the Council to enact a face mask and social distance City Order applying to the unvaccinated in indoor businesses at the next opportunity, to replace the Order of August 5th, 2021. I just read this " California is requiring all health care workers to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 30, but, according to the latest federal data, about one-quarter of them have not received a first dose.)" Please at least require Palm Springs dentists, who at present don't require vaccines for employees AND don't tell patients that they may be worked on by unvaccinated AND have workers only wearing those blue paper masks and a shield to: 1) advise all patients that they may be worked on by unvaccinated dental workers. 2) mandate all dental employees wear N95 masks. 3) Allow workers, if a patient asks them, to respond about vaccines status. The dentist I went to had an office policy forbidding this. The hygienist had to close the door and whisper to me that she was vaccinated. Dental work is different than restaurants or any other public place. Patients MUST remove their own mask and MUST have their mouth open with the worker within inches. Please let me know what the city attorney says. Regarding Implementation of Indoor Mask order Would like council to revisit allowing gyms and fitness centers to observe the same protocols as restaurants and bars and beauty salons. Require proof of vaccination or test BEFORE admitting to facility. It's not clear to me why city is allowing crowded dance floors, beer busts and other social bar behavior after gaining entrance, further there is no occupancy constraint. And salon techs are literally in the faces of their clients. A gym or fitness center is designed to identify that a person is a member and not an unattended minor at checkin. Many restaurants and bars do not have a 100% manned greeter/security/host. Sadly, I have walked in and walked out of many local food establishments and bars either not observing order or do not have the resources to execute with 100% effectiveness. Please modify the mask order to be consistent with these other businesses. And if there is an "implementation" decision made by the city manager (as Mayor Holstege communicated), my plea is that is made with medically informed facts not selective choosing so as not to adversely affect certain businesses. I maintain that we maintain higher standards of positive healthy business practices for the clients we serve than most businesses. Thank you and look forward to consideration in tonight's meeting. He is the one that pulled a gun on a pregnant woman! He is NOT what PS or any sane community is about. The local artist who was on TV said he thinks the mural sends a message that people of color are accepted in the community, whaaaat? There are more black folk than there ever was in PS he must be blind. At the same time the City are thinking of taking down the Bogart statute, a person who did good for PS, why oh why would you have a mural of a career criminal on any wall in PS? If the community want black representation choose someone like MLK or a person of stature in the local community who has helped people here, dare I say it even Ron Oden , the first gay black mayor of any city in the USA, who represented the actual community. Please do not waste any money on a Floyd mural, he is NOT a person who did anything in his life to be admired, and is definitely not a person any young person should look up to and it will always be a very inflammatory message to the community. City Council Members, Respectfully please consider reversing the proof of Covid-19 vaccination requirement to enter restaurants and attend large events. I believe one of the stated reasons vaccinated people are being required to wear masks inside all Palm Springs businesses is because they can still catch Covid-19 and also still infect others. That said, a vaccinated individual in a restaurant full of only vaccinated people can still catch the virus and can still transmit the virus. Therefore it seems I would be at no greater risk if I was in a restaurant full of unvaccinated people than I would full of vaccinated people. If the vaccine passport is not actually protecting my health and safety, what is the vaccine passport actually accomplishing? To be less discriminatory, perhaps restaurants could make certain days for Vaccinated only, Unvacinated only, and mixed. I am fully vaccinated but disagree with Vaccine Passports. I will not support Palm Springs businesses while this kind of discrimination is in place. Thank you for your service to our community. Janet Cass 1bli c, comna•4c TPM Npt . 10... The increase in homicides, as well as reports of gunfire in the north part of the city following the July 8 incident, has many neighbors alarmed. Some have asked on social media whether violent crimes are on the rise. Data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, shared July 21 by The Post on Nextdoor, shows reports of violent crimes in Palm Springs remained steady between 2009 and 2019. During that same period, however, the city's crime rate was 92 percent higher than other cities in the country-. The latest incident comes at a time the city is struggling to attract new police officers. For nearly a year, the Palm Springs Police Department has had six vacant and five frozen positions, as well as multiple officers out with long-term injuries. It recently began offering a $30,000 hiring bonus in an effort to attract more officers. In addition, city leaders are conducting a nationwide search to replace outgoing Police Chief Bryan Reyes, who is set to retire later this month.
