AGENDA ITEM (NEW BUSINESS -PLAZA THEATRE)
Ladies and Gentlemen,
After making public comment at the June 24th City Council Meeting, I am very happy the ball is rolling again in regards
to the revival of the Plaza Theatre. Since then, I have reached out to those spearheading the efforts to "save the Plaza
Theatre" unfortunately yet without a response. That being said, I have to ask the City Council to make sure the
Commission's vision is clear. As the $50,000 is being asked to be used for basic renovations to comply with any code
violations in preparation of the Oasis Music Festival, ...to depend on a singular Music Festival to help further the
fundraising efforts for greater renovations of the theater, seems one sided and a still not enough. I believe, as well as
others in this community, that without someone from the theatrical side on the Commission, these "good, not great
ideas" like An Evening Discussion With Nancy Sinatra, and now this Oasis Music Festival ...fundraising and the reason
why, becomes a visionless venture. To gain the support of the PS Community, even those like Dorothy Moss who has her
PS star in front of the Theater ... the vision must be clear. I would vote yes to use the $50,000 from the donation pool of
the $164,000 raised. But before any further money is granted to the Commission, they do need a better plan. How does
the rich history that led to the current standing of the Plaza Theatre, tie into these efforts made by the current
Commission?
My name is Erik Scott Romney.
Thank you again, for allowing me the privilege of your time Council Members.
