Subject: Questions -Re: Agenda and Zoom Link-District 4 Town Hall-Monday, July 12th, beginning @4pm
Dear Mayor Holstege,
I realize it may be too late to submit questions for the Town Hall but I would still like to submit them
for the record.
As the Mountain Shadows homeowner I am deeply concerned about the idea to destroy the Tahquitz
golf course, a beautiful green recreational area, and convert it into a "Desert Preserve" as the Oswit
Land Trust describes it.
Taking into account that Oswit Land Trust's mission is to "save wildlife" and create "miles of restored
desert along the Tahquitz Creek ... in the heart of Palm Springs" and actually in the middle of
residential neighborhood makes it sound like a bad joke that should not be taken seriously. I believe
in the City Council's wisdom and good will to save the golf course.
The golf course is not only for the golfers, All homeowners in the surrounding communities are
appreciating it and are in panic they are going to lose it.
Closing of the golf course, or converting any green recreational areas into "restored desert", would
definitely be a step backwards and could become the tipping point for City's decline and further
downward spiral. It would destroy the years of progress the city made to create an attractive and
pleasant oasis in the desert known as such in the whole world.
• Did the City Council take into account the long term damage to the City's status, reputation,
attractiveness to tourists and new residents, competitiveness with neighboring cities and
overall detrimental effect on the City's economy while considering the sale of Tahquitz Golf
Course to Oswit?
• What is the overall $ estimate of negative financial impact of closing the golf course on the
city's economy, local businesses, airport, tourism, sales and real estate taxes, etc.?
• What is the estimate in terms of $'s of the negative impact on surrounding communities
property values, rental income?
• Considering that the golf course has the potential to positively contribute to city's budget by
being very popular, conveniently located near the airport and in the middle of golfing
communities, what has been done to promote it and improve the golf course finances?
Thank you for your consideration. I remain hopeful and believe that you Ms. Holstege and the City
Council will make the best decision for the benefit of the City and it's residents.

My husband and I have been coming to Palm Springs for the last 5 years as long-term renters. This year (April)
we made the decision to purchase a lovely home in the Movie Colony. We are doing renovations and so far
have had 2 break ins.
We have noticed the increase in crime over the last several years -homeless people on the streets, aggressive
panhandlers in town, druggies behind buildings when I go to my Pilates class, etc. And now with our home, we
are very concerned not only with the crime, but with the lack of police or law enforcement effectiveness.
What is the City Council doing to address this? They seem to be blind to the reality of the rapid decline of
Palm Springs! We have friends who live permanently in Palm Springs and when the subject of City Council
comes up, they roll their eyes and say it is dysfunctional; is it? And if so, what is being done to change this?

I'm afraid you have just lost all credibility in the Marilyn debate by listing three international news
organizations in your piece in yesterday's Desert Sun, in particular The Indian Economic Times.( A
monumental frock-up) I have lived in India, one of the most misogynistic nations in the world, where the caste
system still thrives, female genitalia mutilation is practiced, honor killings against women prevail, a sweat shop
culture in the garment industry with pitiful wages, human and female sex trafficking, and the list goes on.
I just hope that within your own notoriously sex driven fashion industry here in the USA that the practices that
you follow in your business including notoriously horrendous carbon emissions does not disqualify you from
making any legitimate remarks on feminism.
Those in glass houses should not throw stones , but I suspect the international publicity that your 41,000 plus
group wish to garner has a larger agenda promoted on the back of a small southern Californian town, that to be
quite frank hundreds of millions of people worldwide have never heard of and are not even interested in
Marilyn.
Whatever cause you may have its time to stop using Marilyn as a prop and take a very hard, long look in the
mirror.
I agree with the City Council on this particular issue regarding the placement of Marilyn and the nonsensical
argument that somehow the Art Museum is some kind of glorious temple is somewhat amusing. It's a dour
depressing building at best and since it became an Art museum exclusively with a lot of dubious art that that is
sold off to maintain its financial viability, the family aspect has all but disappeared.
Indeed the focus on reimagining the descriptions to take into account cultural changes and sensitivities ( ie
lecture the public) says everything about your actions suing the City and the associated costs.
Leave Marilyn alone, and if you are genuinely interested in PS use your group to focus on getting rid of pot
shops in PS and the use of any gateway drugs, which is rampant in your industry, particularly with regard to
vulnerable women and the horrendous issue of date rape drugs.

Dear Chief and Council Members
Early last week at 6.30 am I took a short walk on Palm Canyon and counted 12 street people, 10 men and 2 women
One man was urinating in the street, one was smoking a crack pipe, two were lying on the sidewalk and one actually
had his pants down lying on a bench with his dirty buttocks completely exposed!
I spoke to a peace officer sitting in his patrol car 500 yards away and repeated the above and asked what he could do?
He explained that if I suggested that my civil rights were being abused he would do something, but if not he was
powerless to do anything?
He suggested citing them was a waste of time, no jail in Palm Springs and therefore a trip to Indio or Banning would be a
waste of time and all the paperwork involved .
Indeed the suggestion was that many street people are brought from other jurisdictions as far away as LA and dumped
here, in the middle of the night, to relieve the problem at the beach?
He also said there is one community officer who attempts to move them "into the shadows"
I am glad that you have moved to get help from the professionalism of Martha's Village but are we saying that street folk
can act with impunity?
On another note there are sadly many people sleeping in cars and parked almost permanently on public streets and
parking lots.
I used to remember there were city ordinances forbidding this and other loitering activities?
Ironically the expensive vehicle below has over the last few months been parked regularly overnight behind the Rowan
Hotel in a 20 minute parking zone with its A/Con and smelling of pot, and this am was in another 20 minute zone
outside the Hyatt hooked up to the electricity in the street! What has happened to parking enforcement?

Waste Water testing, well, it may be warranted again by late summer or fall.

Dear City Council, City Manager, Danny, and Denise,
No response needed nor expected.
Just a quick important COVID related heads up. You may already be well aware, important
(credible) study out of Israel show vaccine efficacies dropping by a meaningful and significant
amount (highlighted below). This is to say among other things, Waste Water Testing may once
again possibly be warranted in Palm Springs by late summer or fall. That testing would once
again help us become aware early of how much virus is in immediate circulation in Palm
Springs.
Pandemic/Endemic .... it's still a thing.

Dear City Council,
I am writing this email for the following reasons.
I have great concern for me and my family's safety. Our neighborhood has had several burglaries. Homes
vandalized and ransacked. Our cameras caught people in my backyard trying to get into my home through
windows and doors. My mothers caregiver heard the noise and ran to the window and scared them away.
our cars are broken into nightly, our garages are broken into nightly.
It is time You the city council does something.. you care more for the homeless coming into town daily than for
the taxpaying homeowners of our community. We call the police. They either come 4 hours later after the
criminal has gone or they don't come at all.
We are accosted on the street or in the parking lots of our grocery stores. Yelled at harassed and or
chased down by people on drugs wanting cash from us.
Our kids are not safe. Our families are not safe.
Take back our streets and take back our community. WE MOVED TO PALM SPRINGS 15 YEARS AGO. IT WAS
SAFE. WE RETIRED HERE TO BE SAFE IN BEAUTIFUL PALM SPRINGS. WHAT ARE YOU THE CITY COUNCIL
DOING. GET OFF YOUR BUTS AND ACT. MORE POLICE STIFFER SENTENCES, KEEP US SAFE.

I own a business in La Plaza. The closure of Arenas road has had a negative impact on my business. My customers are finding it hard
to find parking and just getting around. Why did the road get closed for the benefit of two businesses but to the detriment of
everyone else? I feel there is some favoritism going on with these two businesses. Please I open up Arenas road.
Thank you,
