DeAztlan Consulting contract in Consent Calendar 6/24/21

Good Afternoon Madame Mayor and Honorable Councilmembers,
I am writing about item lJ on the consent calendar -the Contract Services Agreement with DeAztlan Consulting for
"social media services."
First, I am concerned that this contract is on the calendar at all, because I believe the amount of the contract would
preclude it from being considered without going out to a competitive bid.
Second, with the recently passed Community Workforce Agreement, I do not understand why this work may be
awarded to a company that is not in Palm Springs when we have numerous marketing agencies within the City Limits.
Can this work be done by the City's Communication Department? If not by current staff, it seems the proposed contract
amount could support a new position (just thinking out loud). If the work is done by an outside agency, it must go out to
competitive bid, and Palm Springs vendors should be considered as part of the bid process.
Thank you for your time, and your service to our City.

Good Afternoon Madam Mayor and Hon. Councilmembers,
I am writing today in regard to Item lJ-the Contract Services Agreement with DeAztlan Consulting for social
media services. Council's recent passing of the Community Workforce Agreement was truly a win for
our community-therefore it's concerning that the City is now choosing to contract with a firm based on the
opposite side of the Valley to provide services that should be administered by our own Communications Department.
It seems that the funds appropriated for this contract would be more than sufficient to hire a new city staff member to
produce bilingual social media content. Councilmembers have stated repeatedly that increasing the availability of well-
paying jobs for our residents is a top priority-if that's the case, then why outsource this work?
At the very least, our local, Palm Springs based marketing agencies should be given an opportunity to participate in a
competitive bidding process.
Thank you for your consideration,
Lauren Wolfer
