Dear City Council:
I am writing to ask that consideration be given to installing speed bumps along 34th Ave. This street has
become a race track from the end of the street near Dinah Shore Bridge to Laurence Crossley St. Twice the
Fairways HOA has had to repair an irrigation back flow at the comer of 34th and Crossley which was damaged
due to racing or reckless driving. The noise from the speed and revving of engines and cycles is quite disturbing
to the residents whose homes back up to 34th Ave.
It would be time well spent for a police officer to park just off 34th on Rush St. and observe the speed and noise
at almost any time day or night. Additionally, there is no speed limit sign on 34th. We residents at The Fairways
would be most appreciative of any investigative support you can provide us.
As an aside, the last time I drove to the end of 34th to look for a car that had just sped by, I was greeted by 3-4
young men who threw rocks at my car and damaged the door.
Thank you,
Fredrick Blanton

decided to walk downtown last night for the mini village fest and near Indian Ave I saw a sneaker on the pavement,
lS0yards further down the street was a man sitting in the middle of the sidewalk counting his fingers with one shoe,
mystery solved!
Turning the corner was an old lady lying in a storefront who had obviously just peed herself
A few yards further a gentleman and all his stuff lying on a newly painted bench, and then just by the old coffee bean a
lady in a wheelchair legs and feet exposed with all kinds of scars and scabs happily smoking a cigarette.
The mini village fest was a tribute to the brave vendors, especially in record breaking heat.
I gazed across to Starbucks and the usual bums and I use that word intentionally bedding down for the night, disgraceful.
They are literally intimidating the store owners and visitors alike.
Have you seen how filthy some of the newly painted benches are, it's disgusting because of these bums that have no
respect for PS, or you.
Time to be bold, identify the folk in real need AND who want to change their lives, and help them.
As far as the rest are concerned stop the handwringing and treat them as any other citizen. Why should they be able to
litter and defecate with no consequences?
Oh and it seems that the few stores open were the pot shops, first to open last to close!
So suddenly this community is in great need of medical marijuana
Rethink what this town is all about, hang your heads in shame when this pot pandemic affects a generation when you
are all long gone
Please, please rethink your strategy re cannabis in PS
Can you really imagine a huge growing facility north of 1-10 will not have an impact on the whole area?
67 pot shops and growing? Do you not understand how this attracts criminals to operate with impunity in the city off the
back of the smokescreen of II legal" shops? Dressing them us as leisure lounges is also the biggest lie, it's a gateway to
hard drugs whatever the industry may say.
STOP thinking about revenue, but about the consequences
This is all about business and nothing to do with II medical 11
Opioid crisis engineered by big business, legal, cigarettes, manufactured by big business, legal, vape shops engineered
by big business, legal. But what of the morality? All of these business know the downside to the health of their
customers.
Drug addiction, suicide, homelessness and the list goes on. Members think of your legacy this will not be a pretty
picture.
This morning I encountered at least 12 homeless/drifters on Palm Canyon all in some state of light headed ness! One
was actually smoking a cigar!
This picture says it all

Stop this madness and stop making excuses, make the hard decisions.
After pot shops , what next?
Think of what you are normalizing for the next generation and the disastrous consequences it will have.
Council Members
Thank you for standing firm on the placement of Marilyn who has finally arrived back in PS ........ BUT please all take a
long hard look in the mirror as another pot shop is about to open on Palm Canyon!
67 pot shops in Palm Springs, added security and cost and of course please please think added problems in the future for
our youth and homeless/drifters!
STOP thinking about cannabis revenue, it's shameful.
I saw a homeless older woman this morning sitting cross legged outside Starbucks counting her joints on the sidewalk
completely out of her mind!
Do you all ever walk around PS at 6.30 am onwards and see all this or are you blind?
Spending money and deciding what to do with the remainder of the $10million allocated for homeless is NOT the
answer
The Roy Wilson center was built years ago for $millions and .............. You know the answer!
The question has to be, which none of you want to ask is" Why are people CHOOSING to be drifters?"
The vast majority are NOT homeless they do not want the responsibility of all that goes with staying in a home!
Honestly understand this, stop pandering to them with freebies and concentrate on the core group who genuinely want
help to either get off addictions, get a job and contribute to society in a positive way.
Have you ever noticed that many have no respect for themselves or anybody else in this community when leaving all
their trash everywhere, but we continue the handwringing?
3
They actually have no respect for you either, let that sink in.

Mayor Holstege and City Councilmembers,
As the city's LGBTQ community enhancement nonprofit organization for the last 35 years, Palm
Springs Pride encourages the council's support of a temporary Pride crosswalk at Palm Canyon and
Amado, the endpoint of the Pride Parade and the entry to the Pride Festival.
We've explored wrapping the light poles in rainbow colors on Arenas Rd, and we've floated the idea
of installing same-sex/LGBTQ-friendly pedestrian crossing symbols. We've encouraged a rainbow
crosswalk in Palm Springs since mid-2011.
In 2011 the idea of a crosswalk did not gain traction. Instead, we set a goal to partner with civic
officials, leaders in tourism, and businesses throughout the Coachella Valley to send a loud message
to the world that LGBT individuals are welcome in the desert. Together we carried a 400' rainbow flag
up Palm Canyon Dr. This was the largest flag to ever appear in Palm Springs.
In March 2016, funding of rainbow crosswalks was on the Measure J agenda for consideration.
However, they did not take any action on the project.
In August 2018, the council approved a subcommittee headed by JR Roberts to work with city staff
and the community to create a plan for rainbow crosswalks on Arenas. The Pride organization, the
arts commission, and city staff produced a body of research and plenty of ideas. Eventually, the effort
lost steam.
With the idea of a rainbow crosswalk in Palm Springs fading, the Pride organization led the effort with
the subcommittee to install the Arenas Rd (ground to top of the pole) banners on Arenas Rd. The city
oversaw the installation and paid to produce the banners. These banners were displayed for two
years and pulled down as COVID shuttered businesses. We will work with the Arenas Rd merchants
and the city to raise the banners in time for Pride Week in November.
In the ten years, we have been contemplating a rainbow crosswalk in Palm Springs, hundreds of
cities worldwide have made them a reality. Today, we encourage the city council to support the
installation of a temporary rainbow crosswalk. We ask for a temporary installation because a
permanent crosswalk has evaded us all these years.

Subject: Rainbow Flag Finish Line Crosswalk For Gay Pride 2021
Christy and Geoff,
I am writing to you because I cannot attend the E&BD subcommittee meeting tomorrow, 6/8 at 5:30. I will be at the
Villagefest Board meeting.
In conversation with local business owners, Dave Powell with DBA, and Ron DeHarte with PS Pride, we expressed
interest in painting an "LGBTQ+11 rainbow on the east/west crosswalk at Amado and N Palm Canyon on the north side as
a finish line for the 2021 PS Gay Pride. This of all years will be an exceptional parade as we celebrate and acknowledge
the challenges endured, lessons learned, and the small successes throughout this pandemic.
All four crosswalks painted with the rainbow would be ideal, but the consensus was that because of past challenges, we
recommend 1 of 4 cross walks. If the City deems this a positive, then we all see the value of a permanent crosswalk in
the future. There is no need to make a significant investment as what was seen in NY. We realize that we are a small
town with limited resources.
2
The painted crosswalk will provide us all with a sense of pride and community as we walk across the LGBTQ+ flag.
Everyone in the Community has personal stories about the impact of LGBTQ+ symbols in our lives. Mine was several
years ago when I stood on San Vicente watching the LA Marathon runners come down San Vicente and turn on to Santa
Monica. Every runner passed over the newly painted LGBTQ flag crosswalks. I had such an overwhelming sense of
acceptance as I looked back over so many years of inequity. It was in 1991 that we stood in that same intersection
protesting California Governor Pete Wilson's veto of AB101 (equal protection in private workplace). We marched night
after night and we met there at that very same intersection every night. Flash forward several years and I had many
emotions about how far we had come as a Community for it to be perfectly normal for LA Marathon runners to come
down San Vicente and cross the LGBTQ painted crosswalks.
All of the participants in the parade will walk across the LGBTQ+ flag crosswalk. People walking from the beginning of
the parade route will also walk across the flag as they enter the Pride festival at Amado. It will remind so many of us of
our accomplishments, our struggles, and above all our strength as a community with our friends, families, and LGBTQ+
allies at our sides over the years.
Please consider this temporary crosswalk for this year's PS Pride and Pride festival at the parade finish line and
beginning of the Pride festival at Amado and Palm Canyon.
Best regards,
Darrell Baum
