There are several homeless that we see on the 200-300 block of N Palm Canyon everyday for the past 3-% years we've been in downtown operating our business Wabi Sabi Japan Living. They are fairly docile and infrequent to use drugs or alcohol that we can see or notice. They're fairly calm with occasional yelling but it's so infrequent. Over the past few weeks we are seeing new homeless faces in town. Here are 3 that stood out 1) Drug dealer 6'2-3" white male in his mid 40s with dark hair with friar balding pattern. He'll take up camp across from us on Amado between the rug store and real estate office. We've seen him sell drugs to a couple if the local homeless which is contributing to their erratic behavior and yelling. The guy acts as if he's crazy but he's very direct in selling drugs and not being in the same spot for too long. 2) Violent yeller Mid 40s white male with dark hair about 5'8-9", wearing black tights, a jacket with different color sleeves (red and blue). This guy went after 2 young girls yesterday screaming nonsensical words. They ran into our store for protection. The tone is violent and he's scary looking. 3) Young Tweaky Latin Latin male in his 20s wearing dark color clothes on speed. He walks up and down Palm Canyon casing cars walking in and around cars. My keys were in our shop door last night and he came racing for them and found himself cornered on our patio when I came out. He jumped the fence and ran off. These are 3 that stood out. There are many more. As a business owner I am livid that Riverside County has done this to our city and the businesses here. Our City and homeless organizations work so hard with our current homeless population and now the numbers are increasing to the point that I wonder if it will be manageable. Someone selling drugs across from our store is unacceptable. And those drugs causing issues for the existing homeless is also unacceptable. A homeless man running after 2 young girls in a threatening way is unacceptable. A tweakke'r casing cars and businesses is unacceptable. Riverside county dumping its homeless in Palm Springs is deplorable. I hope this provides a picture of the damage that Riverside County has done with dumping homeless in PS. And the increase of crime and homelessness in this city is NOT reflected in the city's statistics since the majority of petty theft goes unreported. This is an absolute disgrace, and yes, I'm more than just upset at how these problems are NOT being handled properly by authorities. Do you really want Palm Springs to become a filthy and disgusting San Francisco!? It will be if nothing is done.... Please act now and stop this madness of crime and homelessness immediately!!!! I'm so sick and disgusted with these progressive policies to coddle criminals and the like.... I've watched officers sit outside my condo complex for EIGHT hours giving out rolling stop rocks for over 10 years now! Shane on all of you for allowing crime to get as bad as it is here. I left Los Angeles for this reason and now I can't even walk to my own bank without being harassed by the barrage of homeless camps from Baristo to Ramon! Again, shame on you all for allowing this to happen to one of the most beautiful cities in this country. There are homeless living in an empty lot behind my complex and we are told by Police there is nothing to be done because of Covid?! This is absolute BS. Other cities and states do not tolerate this crap and I'm absolutely disgusted that these problems are out of control and not being handled or addressed by police or this council. The report summarizes the number of homeless individuals who have received services in the City of Palm Springs since 2016, including the amount of money the City has expended for such services. My two-part question to the City Council is this: What similar services have other cities in the Coachella Valley provided to address homelessness in their respective communties? Secondly, if it is apparent that other cities in the Coachella Valley have not shared the burden of addressing and mitigating homelessness as the City of Palm Springs, does the City Council have any idea if the City of Palm Springs has become a magnet for homeless people who previously resided outside the City of Palm Springs?
